Christina Hess grew up in Lititz, Pennsylvania where she spent her days meandering the countryside talking to animals or hunkered over her desk drawing and painting. She was awarded an art scholarship and moved to Philadelphia to attend the University of the Arts where she graduated with her MFA in Illustration. She has been a freelance illustrator since 1998 and continues to paint for publication. Her work has been honored in numerous publications and competitions such as Spectrum 18,19 & 20, Expose 10 & 11, Exotique 7, A Sliver award in Society of Illustrators West 50 and 3x3 Magazine Pro Show. Some of her clients include Cider Mill Press, GreenPrints Magazine, Fig Magazine, Hudson Seed Library, Bioneers, no name (Art Group), and Running Press. The majority of characters are actual pets portraying historical figures of their owner’s choice. AfH has been featured on Philadelphia’s “NewsWorks Tonight” during it’s infancy and has picked up a following via social network sites. Christina lives in South Philadelphia with her partner in crime, illustrator Dominick Saponaro, in a house that boasts numerous pictures, drawings and paintings of their late basset hound, Roscoe P.
